WELCOME TO THE 65TH SEASON OF
THE NIAGARA SYMPHONY
Music Director & Principal Conductor Bradley Thachuk proudly announced the Niagara Symphony’s upcoming 2012-2013 Season. In celebration of the NSO’s 65th Season, Maestro Thachuk has programmed an exhilarating selection of classical music favourites, Niagara Symphony premieres, contemporary works for all to enjoy, and Canadian composers and artists.
The NSO continues its tradition of welcoming illustrious guest artists and conductors and takes enormous pride in featuring our own talented NSO musicians. With an expanded MasterWorks Series, the addition of a new Family Series and an exciting beginning to our multi-year Beethoven Project, the NSO’s 52 fully professional musicians will bring glorious music to life in our 2012-2013 Season with their talent, commitment and passion!
Commented Maestro Thachuk: “I am tremendously excited by our 2012-13 Season and all that it has to offer. Repertoire has been chosen to further raise the already-heightened excitement and enthusiasm of our audiences. Anchored by our MasterWorks Series, programmes will feature many of the greatest works of the symphonic repertoire and will include my first multi-year project with the Symphony. The Beethoven Project will feature all of Beethoven’s major works culminating with his glorious 9th Symphony in the new Performing Arts Centre. I have designed the POPS! Series with one single word in mind – entertainment. And we are delighted to launch our new Family Series – with programmes and subscription prices guaranteed to attract families on a Saturday afternoon. It’s going to be a great 65th Season!”
THE BEETHOVEN PROJECT:
May 26, 2013 marks the beginning of an ambitious new project at the NSO. In the upcoming seasons, Maestro Thachuk will present all the major works of Ludwig van Beethoven, culminating with the opening of the new Performing Arts Centre. Join the NSO on a fascinating journey to explore the works of this classical music giant, beginning with the MasterWorks 5 performance of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major and the epic Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major – the Eroica.
THREE SERIES TO CHOOSE FROM:
The Niagara Symphony is pleased to announce the addition of a Family Series this season. Families will enjoy matinee performances of Heroes and Villains (think Superman and Darth Vader) and The Magical Music of Disney at special Family Series subscription prices. And of course, the MasterWorks and POPS! series return next year, offering major classical works by Brahms, Grieg, Sibelius and Canadian John Estacio, and lighter fare that includes beloved music from movies, operetta and Broadway.
GUEST ARTISTS:
The best of Canada and the world come to play in Niagara! Next year, the Niagara Symphony is delighted to welcome renowned guest conductor Earl Stafford and acclaimed soloists Younggun Kim, piano, and Michael Ludwig, violin. Mr. Kim presents the challenging Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor at MasterWorks 4, and Mr. Ludwig opens our Beethoven project with a performance of the Violin Concerto in D major at MasterWorks 5. Joining Maestro Thachuk to open our POPS! Series is tenor Richard Margison, star of the Canadian Opera Company and the Metropolitan Opera, and his gifted daughter, soprano Lauren Margison. The Niagara Symphony’s Associate Conductor, Laura Thomas, will conduct two POPS! concerts in the 2012-2013 Season, and we are proud to showcase our own Principal Clarinet, Zoltan Kalman, in Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto.

The Niagara Symphony is delighted to announce a new partnership with RBC Royal Bank, presenting sponsors of The Magical Music of Disney for both POPS! 4 and the new Family Series. Other concert sponsors include Walker Industries, Canadian Tire Financial Services and Cogeco.
