The Academy
Ages 14 - 18
Academy participants enjoy music growth through challenging and enriched musical encounters.
For students interested in serious music study, the Academy Programme includes private lessons, performance lectures and participation in large and small ensembles. Instruction is available in all orchestral instruments and in collaborative piano and voice.
Private lessons and ensemble coaching are part of the daily routine. Students will have the opportunity for both solo performance with collaboration and chamber ensemble performance. Practice rooms are available.
Presented by guest lecturers and faculty members, lectures and seminars address issues of interest to musicians. Topics include Preparing for an Audition, Performance Anxiety, Performance Practice, Improvisation and Interpretation.
A Mock Audition allows the student an opportunity to experience the logistics and emotion involved in auditioning. A written critique will be given to assist the student in developing a strong presentation.
Through special arrangement with Conservatory Canada, Academy students can achieve Theory credits, Grades 1, 2, 3, 4. These credits are requirements for completion of certification of Grades 5,6,7,8 though Conservatory Canada and the Royal Conservatory. Theory credits are pre-requisites for all university music programmes. An written exam will be given at the end of the Academy session.
Conservatory Canada credits are transferrable for Royal Conservatory accreditation.
It is the goal of the Academy Programme to offer the student musician an opportunity to manage performance through training and experience.
