The Quest For The Podium

The 2009-2010 season will be an unparalleled opportunity to hear the orchestra like never before. As the selection process for the next music director continues, four finalists will step onto the podium for one Masters and one Pops series concert. Audience input will be sought and welcomed. One of the innovative ways of comparing “apples to apples” will see each of the conductors perform the same work: T. Patrick Carrabré’s Chase the Sun. Let the excitement begin!

Along this extraordinary musical adventure will be many old friends (symphonies by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Sibelius); (violin soloist Xiaoling Li) and new (pianist David Louie will make his NSA début with Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini; Estacio’s Spring Promise will receive its regional première). Pops lovers will be offered a quartet of programs that will engage, entertain and invigorate: Classics Rock, Holiday Pops—Santa may well become another conducting contender! — Winter Carnival and Big Band.

As the reality of a Niagara Arts Centre continues to gain momentum, there’s no better way of showing your support and enthusiasm for this project by purchasing a subscription and inviting your friends and family to do the same. It’s safe to say that there won’t be a dull moment in a year that features many new talents at the helm of Niagara’s oldest professional ensemble.
