Amrom ChodosClarinet

Amrom Chodos is an orchestra and recital clarinetist and a retired high school music teacher. He studied clarinet with Leon Russianoff and Robert Marcellus, among others, attended the Manhattan School of Music and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Clarinet from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1972. 

Mr. Chodos’ performance career includes service as an Army Bandsman in the West Point Band, a member of the “Creative Associates,” an avant-garde music group in the Center for the Creative and Performing Arts at the University in Buffalo, a regular performer with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Assistant Principal Clarinetist with the Florida Symphony Orchestra in Orlando, and is presently the second chair Clarinetist with the Niagara Symphony Orchestra in Ontario, Canada, a position he has held since 1980. 

As a music teacher, Mr. Chodos directed the High School Band program at Barker High School in Niagara County, New York, a position he held for twenty four years. In 1984, he founded the Barker Community Band, an adult concert band, which, under his direction, has enjoyed great popularity in the local community. 

Mr. Chodos grew up in Brooklyn, New York surrounded by the sounds of Jewish music which has had a great influence on his performance and compositional career. He has written many pieces following the traditional style of Klezmer. A comprehensive CD of his music, "Chicken Noodle Soup" is available from his website: www.amromchodos.com.
