David Braun, Strolling Violin

Repertoire:
David has been a member of the Niagara Symphony Association since 1989 and has also worked for the District School Board of Niagara as a secondary school music educator since 1989. He currently teaches music at Eden High School in St. Catharines.

Deborah Braun, Harpist

Instrumentation: Harp
Repertoire:
Deborah Braun is currently the principal harpist with the Niagara Symphony. She has performed with the NSA since 1992. Deborah began her studies on the harp with Doris Sharing, former principal harpist with the NSA. Since that time she studied with Suzanne Thomas of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Eileen Malone at the Eastman School of Music and with Eileen Pamphilon in Cambridge.

Duos

Glissandi

Instrumentation: Harp and Violin or Harp and Flute
Repertoire: Bach, Handel and Beethoven to Broadway and familiar Pops Tunes
Glissandi is a Niagara-based duo that has been performing together for over ten years. They are featured regularly in Niagara's finest venues, and are members of the Niagara Symphony. Glissandi has recorded two CDs and each of the members is an established freelance musician of their own.

Impromp2

Instrumentation: Violin and Violin/Viola/Guitar
Repertoire: light classics and folk music
This ensemble is comprised of two musicians who perform in combinations of violin duet, violin & viola and violin & guitar. They perform light classical and folk music, and are available for many occasions such as weddings, parties and luncheons.

Trios


Arabesque Trio

Instrumentation: 2 Violins & Piano
Repertoire: light classical and celtic
The Arabesque Trio started in 1997 as "Fifty-four Strings" with the two violinists accompanied by harpist Karen Smith. When Karen went on to pursue other artistic endeavors, we welcomed long-time colleague Linda Bruch to the group. The versatility of the keyboard greatly expanded the group's repertoire. Gail brings her experience from Celtic band "Barley Brae". Mary Beth works with various artists.

The Rainbow Trio

Instrumentation: Flute, Violin & Cello or 2 Violins & Cello
Repertoire: light classics; Bach to Vivaldi and popular songs; Broadway to Ragtime
Established in 1985, this accomplished trio performs light classics and popluar melodies for weddings, receptions and other special occasions.

The Tremain Trio

The Vintage Jazz Trio

Instrumentation: Piano, Bass, Drums
Repertoire: jazz standards from 1920's to 1960's
The Vintage Jazz Trio features elegant jazz by great composers like Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Antonio Carlos Jobim, etc. It is the perfect compliment for receptions, dinners and special events.

Trio Terpsichore

Instrumentation: Violin/cello/keyboard (harpsichord or piano)
Repertoire: baroque to contemporary music, some Chinese and Japanese music
Trio Terpsichore is an ensemble with a wide range of musical repertoire encompassing baroque to comtemporary music including some Chinese and Japanese music. The possibility of using harpsichord or piano gives the ensemble even more variety of tone colours. This ensemble can enhance any event for which music is required.

Quartets


Niagara String Quartet

Instrumentation: 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello
Repertoire: light classics
This string quartet was established in the early 1980's by members of the Niagara Symphony and has been delighting listeners throughout Southern Ontario and Western New York ever since. It specializes in light classics for special occasions, and is available for weddings, parties, receptions, and other private events. The quartet has appeared in concert with many artists, and has been featured in numerous performances at Brock University.

Quattro Music

Instrumentation: (2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello), expandable to septet
Repertoire: wide range of styles from Baroque to contemporary classics
Quattro has been playing for weddings, art shows, building openings and other corporate events for the past 15 years. Noted for its wide ranging repertoire Quattro, was chosen by Wedding Bells magazine for an interview on the role of music at weddings for the Spring/Summer 2003 issue.

Serenata

Instrumentation: 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello
Repertoire: Baroque, light classical, popular music
Performing in the Golden Horseshoe for over 25 years, Serenata has been providing beautiful music for many special occasions. For the past 21 years the quartet been featured in the Hamilton Cathedral of Christ the King's Christmas Eve Midnight Mass, broadcast on CHCH. Whether it's special music for a wedding ceremony or relaxing dinner music for a reception, Serenata's classical and popular repertoire add a touch of musical elegance to any occasion.

The Luthien Ensemble

van Dongen String Quartet

Instrumentation: 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello
Repertoire: baroque to contemporary
The van Dongen String Quartet consisting of 2 violins, viola & cello is a unique ensemble with father and three sons. We have played together since 1979 for many weddings and special occasions. Our repertoire ranges from Bach to the Beatles.

Niagara Brass Ensemble

Instrumentation: Brass Quintet (2 trumpets, 1 horn, 1 trombone, 1 tuba)
Repertoire: Baroque to Basie
Since its inception in 1990, the Niagara Brass Ensemble has been dedicated to excellence in brass chamber music performance. The group performs in its own concert series in Toronto, has performed in community concert series, at universities, clinics, churches, museums and art galleries, the Royal Conservatory of Music and done several television broadcasts in the Toronto, Niagara and Hamilton.

Niagara Chamber Players

Instrumentation: variable depending on need
Repertoire: light classics
This ensemble varies its membership depending on the number of kinds of musicians required to play. It can be solo, duet, trio, quartet or even larger. This flexibility is a real benefit to help you plan the music you want, within a budget you can afford.

Swing Shift

Instrumentation: Sax/Flute, Trombone, Piano, Bass, Drums, possibly guitar & vocal
Repertoire: big band dance and bossa nova to current pop
The Swing Shift plays big band classics by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and others. Together since 1983, they authentically capture the sounds of the swing era with a little bossa nova and rock 'n roll as well.
