Guest conductor Bradley Thachuk plans to forge a musical link between best-loved classics and their popular music reincarnations. Anyone who’s ever been “Hooked on Classics” won’t fail to recognize Ludwig van’s Symphony No. 5 (performed at a fraction of the time!). Shameless “borrowing” of romantic melodies—such as Sergei Rachmaninoff’s beguiling piano music—will ring a bell with Eric Carmen fans (“All by Myself”). Aaron Copland’s zesty “Hoe-Down” gets a fresh coat of musical paint via Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Sergei Prokofiev admirers will enjoy the Sting-infused rendition of the “Romance” from the Russian composer’s everpopular Lieutenant Kijé Suite. The trip down pop classics’ memory lane includes favourites from Andrew Lloyd Webber (Jesus Christ Superstar) and The Beatles (“Love Is All You Need”).
